Different people are motivated by different things. A classic example of different motivations in computer games are: social, achievement, challenge, and story. In education, there are also individual differences in motivation. A system that can intelligent learn to model the motivations of the user can theoretically adapt its performance and content to an individual, making it more intrinsically valuable to interact with. There is great potential in computer games that change based on what motivates the players. There is greater potential in systems that help people learn by tapping into motivations.
