Tailoring, adaptation, and customization: three terms used extensively during the workshop to convey the notion that somehow customizing a user's experience in a virtual world, game, etc., is believed to increase engagement, enjoyment, and "fun". Two talks on player modeling discussed how learning about the user can facilitate customization and lead to an increase in fun. Thue has an empirical evaluation that shows that this might actually be true.
Related to this is the notions of push and pull. In the context of customization, push is the notion that a system should model the player and make the changes autonomously. The system things you want X. Pull is the notion that customization should come from requests of the player. "I want Y!"
