A major theme of the workshop was adaptation, tailoring, and customization of player experiences in games and virtual environments. A system that adapts, customizes, and otherwise automatically changes a game, level, virtual world, or plotline is creating something novel. Some believe that a system -- human or otherwise -- is creative if it produces something that is valuable, surprising, and novel (see Margaret Boden's The Creative Mind for more information). Indeed, as the computational system takes progressively more responsibility for shaping and insuring a fun experience, the system is going to require more human-level intelligence and more human-level creativity.
