Authoring

The importance of authoring content for games and education was pervasive. Authoring of content is also the biggest hurdle to scalability. In the most general sense, a computational system dependent on human-authored content is limited in its ability to deliver tailored/adapted/personalized/customized content. To do so would mean a human author could anticipate all the needs of all possible users. Thus, the procedural generation of content can be important for a large class of technologies, from games, to education, to training. However, in the near term, AI content generation systems are not likely to be as capable as human content developers. It may be important to seek hybrid solutions where the author is able to provide knowledge about the domain of content generation that can guide automated generation. A third consideration is whether AI can augment human authoring of content. It may even be possible to make humans (especially amateurs) better at content creation by offloading certain aspects of the authoring task to an intelligent, creative computational system.
